With assets like DIA, Metro Denver's aviation industry is taking flight.
Denver International Airport (DIA), three reliever airports, and top aircraft manufacturing companies form a strong foundation for 14,230 workers employed by aviation companies in the nine-county Metro Denver and Northern Colorado region.
The region ranked 11th among the nation's 50 largest metro areas for aviation employment concentration in 2007. The industry cluster includes companies that manufacture aircraft and provide air transportation services.
A top factor in the industry's ascent in Metro Denver is dynamic growth at DIA, the nation's fifth busiest airport and 10th busiest in the world. Strong increases in carriers and passenger traffic as well as development near DIA, is fueling aviation expansion.
With North America's longest commercial runway located at DIA, there's also significant potential for new international flights. International passenger traffic at DIA increased 15 percent in 2007. Lufthansa began a new direct flight to Munich in 2007, providing companies throughout the region increased access to Eastern Europe and Asia.
Advocating for new international flights and aviation-related job growth in the region is a focus of the Metro Denver EDC's DIA Leadership Committee (DIAL). DIAL also works to advance the economic potential of DIA as well as focusing on sustainability and transportation access.
So look seriously at our region for aviation expansion. You'll find great growth opportunities, convenient access to customers, and a preoccupation with aviation that matches yours.
