The Metro Denver EDC's major accomplishments in 2007-2008

  • Provided $250,000 in seed money to Coloradans for Responsible Reform to fight anti-business ballot initiatives

  • Provided $250,000 to support the Democratic National Convention and led marketing initiatives to reach international/national media and corporate sponsors during the historic event

  • Helped craft and advocate for key business legislation including single factor tax apportionment, business personal property tax, and elimination of the fly-away tax

  • Assisted ConocoPhillips with its site selection process in choosing Louisville as the site of its new Global Technology and Corporate Learning Center for alternative energy R&D

  • Kicked off a new five-year capital campaign to broaden our business leadership base and raise an additional $5 million annually for programs to grow the economy

  • Following the consolidation of the DIA Partnership into the Metro Denver EDC, created the DIA Leadership Committee, a business advisory and support group dedicated to the growth of DIA

  • Continued to utilize a proactive national prospect qualification system along with prospect visits to California and Canada to attract new jobs in aerospace, energy, bioscience, and IT

  • Released the fourth edition of the Toward a More Competitive Colorado report, an extensive study of Colorado's competitive position nationally for economic growth and job creation

  • Released an annual Industry Cluster Study detailing six top industries for job growth in Metro Denver and Northern Colorado

  • Worked with Denver International Airport on two Tokyo missions to promote development of a new nonstop flight to Asia

  • Awarded $2.5 million in grants to 10 area workforce and education programs as part of the Metro Denver WIRED Initiative

  • Along with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the state of Colorado, hosted a delegation of Spanish energy companies seeking investment opportunities in Colorado and the region

  • Led proactive national public relations efforts to promote the region for company relocation and expansion

  • Redesigned and launched the new www.metrodenver.org, a top marketing tool developed for national site selectors and C-Level executives

  • Hosted the Fourth Annual Report to Investors and Awards Luncheon in June highlighting our investors support and work to make Metro Denver a competitive place for business

  • Staffed the business development and marketing efforts for the Colorado Space Coalition, creating the www.spacecolorado.org Web site and leading efforts at the National Space Symposium

  • Participated in and led numerous national trade shows, including MD&M (Medical Device and Manufacturing), the National Space Symposium, BIO, and CoreNet Global.
