According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's crime statistics for 2006, the Denver-Aurora MSA had only 427.7 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants, ranking the area as the sixth safest among the 25 largest metropolitan areas.
Most major Colorado cities saw significant drops in crime in 2007, following an overall trend of lower crime over the past 15 years, according to the FBI figures.
Westminster had a 23 percent drop in violent crime between 2006 and 2007, and a 32 percent decline in overall crime since 2005.
Denver, Fort Collins and Lakewood also dropped more than 10 percent in violent crime last year.
