International Flights

Attracting new international flights is one of the Metro Denver EDC's top economic development initiatives. In 2007 alone, international passenger traffic at Denver International Airport (DIA) increased 15 percent.

In 2003, DIA opened its sixth runway, which at 16,000 feet, is the longest commercial runway in North America. The extra distance gives fully loaded jumbo jets added length to take off,  providing unrestricted access and growth potential for international flights. Currently, DIA offers 20 international flights including destinations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Mexico.

In 2006, Metro Denver added its newest international flight when Lufthansa announced a new daily direct flight to Munich. With an annual economic impact of $108 million, the Munich flight provides Metro Denver's companies efficient access to destinations in Eastern Europe and Asia.
